Contemporary style in a classic bay setting.. The Scene
Opened at the turn-of-the-millennium, this boutique hotel was built from the ground up under the direction of Ray Zambrano, a famous local architect. Its design relies on the philosophy that less is more, but warmth and comfort aren't sacrificed for simplicity. Natural lighting plays off the delicate modern touches, making this waterfront gem a treat for the senses.

The Details
Along with the gardens and second-floor terrace, the guest rooms and suites overlook views of Richardson Bay against the backdrop of Mt. Tamalpais. All junior suites have private balconies or patios, and some of the suites feature fireplaces. This is an ideal place for a quiet getaway, so you may want to check that a group isn't booked during your stay. The al fresco terrace can accommodate up to 200 people, making the property popular for personal events or informal business gatherings.

LOVED IT!. The Acqua hotel is fantastic! This is one of the rare occasions when the website pictures matched the actual hotel. We were upgraded to a junior suite with a fireplace. Our room had a spectacular view of Richardson Bay (most rooms do, I think). Even though we're close to the freeway, the surroundings are very serene and quiet. Complimentary breakfast was amazing -- bagels, jams, pastries, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs, fresh fruit, coffee, wide tea selection, juice, espresso bar. I'm definitely going back for future stays.
