Great place for casual Mexican. This is a fun restaurant - and they have great fish tacos. Beware: it gets quite busy on weekend nights.

Mexican meals served up in style at this funky local favorite.. In Short
This Mill Valley mainstay showcases a collection of more than 200 hot-sauce bottles, perched above casual tables dressed in bright-colored cloths and shelved over the bar--which features sparkling-red pleather spinning stools. The place is always packed on weekends and has a menu that offers its patrons authentic Mexican fare with a little flair. The Meican pizza is a favorite, as well as the heaping large tacos and burritos.

Overrated Mexican Joint, don't bother with the mediocre food.. Personally, I had high hopes for this little tace joint. After hearing rave reviews from everybody including the folks who offered us directions, I was looking forward to some reasonable mexican food. Everything including the fish tacos were overrated and it was not worth the travel across the bridge. Try it once you decide but I won't go back for this hole in the wall unappealing unappetizing food. Bleck!

Fun Atmosphere, Great Food & Margaritas. The interior of Joe's is a carnival of bright colors and creative decorations. The food is consistently good. I would particularly recommend the grilled fish tacos, crimini mushroom tostada and jack cheese enchiladas. They also have great margaritas made with Agave wine. The drawback is that there is always a wait for a table at dinnertime because it is such a popular spot. It is also a great spot for kids.

A unique place for mexican style food. this is one of those places where you pick your favorite dishes and go back for it over and over. The fish tacos are really good, though a little pricey (somewhere in the $3.50 range for one taco), and come with no sides, but they're really, really good. The tostaditas, a lighter meal choice, is the Joe's special slaw on top of a fried corn tortilla, topped with your choice of meats (fish, meat, tofu). It's an unusual tostada, and quite tasty. But the best thing about Joe's Taco's are the Street Burgers - these small burgers come with bacon, cheese, sweet and hot peppers (just like a Philly cheese steak), and a small side of their yummy spicy fries -- all for around $4.00. You can order the regular burgers street-style and they'll charge you a little extra, but you get a regular sized burger and choice of salad or spicy fries. I gotta agree that their stale chips and salty, flavorless pico de gallo are not worth even a buck, but other than that, most everything's pretty darned good. I find the prices to be a little steep for lunch, maybe that's why I stick with the street burger, a taco or a tostadita. Don't bother with the desserts. They're not very good. This is a great place for atmosphere, friendly staff, and some good eats. Out-of-towners are always pleased, especially when they try the street burgers. A great place for kids, esp. those with parents who let them rampage, so if you don't like loud, messy children practically sitting in your lap, stay away during peak hours.

Funky place, decent food!. We take people here when they visit because it's so unique! The food is good, prices are decent and it's a nice, relaxed place to get out of the pretentioius yuppi-ness that Marin has to offer. The fried platanos are scrumptious! The service is a bit relaxed too, but the staff is friendly, so that makes up for it!

From a regular.... I live up the street from Joe's. While I can absolutely appreciate someone's one-off (or twice) bad experience, I've got to say it consistently satisfies my taste. The food is good AND healthy. They don't use lard. The prawn tacos are stupendous. Occassionally there is a mishap, but they are always willing to right a wrong. It's a very casual place to chow down. Kids are very welcome (albeit badly behaved at times, but I blame lax parents not Joe's employees.) If you're a lover of heat, the house snake sauce is a delight. It is what is presents itself as: mellow, healthy, inexpensive, welcoming, unpretentious. Which is more refreshing than the agua fresca!

Wonderful!. JTL is a great destination whenever I venture north over the bridge. Good for a quick grilled fish taco. The griddled corn cake is outstanding, and the pizzas are really good too, especially for a Mexican joint! The atmposphere is great, with a Virgin of Guadalupe theme going on. Out of town visitors love it too, after a day of hiking in Mt. Tam and Muir Woods.

not so much. this is one of those places you want to be excellent because the atmosphere is so great and the staff is so nice. the food's just bad. i've been there twice now, and both times was treated to over-cooked vegetables, undercooked enchiladas, diced and sketchy chicken, and the worst: chips and salsa that weren't so good AND cost $1 per basket.
