Great Live Music and Drink Specials. Whatever you're in the mood for Max''s covers it on the menu. Deliciously prepared with excellent presentation- there's something for everyone.Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Happy Hour is the best deal in town. I love the bartender- she's great. Always a great time.

Go for the food, put up with the service. This is the place to go if you want a heaping pastromi sandwhich, probably the biggest in all of the Bay Area. And, if you have room for dessert after that, plan on splitting it. Even the normal ones are enough for two.

But, the service is almost always slow and amateurish. If you want another drink or a dessert menu, plan on flagging your waiter down.

Almost But Not Quite -. Max's Restaurants remind me a great deal of my father's religious persuasion - pseudo this and pseudo that. The names are there alright but that's about it. Perhaps because Max (now his kids) doesn't like being criticized, the food appeals to the lowest common denominator. That is, the food isn't bad and the orders aren't 'skimpy', however, truly tasty Jewish (read ethnic) food it is not and any real similarity to an East Coast Deli -simply because of serving or menu size is a misnomer. For mass appeal, I don't blame Max for trying to appeal to as many customers as possible, but, I also think that to truly deserve a reputation as an authentic Deli - he ought to put, perhaps, three or four different items on the Menu that are boldly Jewish. Who knows, he might even build up a whole new clientele.

pastrami reuben. We were craving some comfort food on a cold saturday in January...Max's turkey pastrami reuben is awesome. Yeah it's more than the $6 sando you find in the City but it's HUGE. One is perfect for two people unless you really want to pig out. The service was perfect. Tons of stuff on the menu. Also tried the hot wings, which were satisfying too.

I didn't have high hopes about this place since it's a chain but it's a great find in Marin.

Critics SHOULD be welcome. On the door of all the Max's Restaurants I've seen, there is a sign "Critics are not welcome." It's amusing (and very New York of them) and I don't doubt they'll be around for a long time, but they should allow a few helpful suggestions. We expect to pay $10 for a big fat sandwich at an upscale deli, but don't need to pay $20 for only-decent roasted chicken smothered in sauce with a side of buttered veggies. I look forward to trying their Reuben - I think it might raise their score.
