Terrific Service, Knowledgeable, Competetent and Fast. I purchased a Miele canister vacuum here in May 2001. The other day it just quit working. I called and talked to Steven who said it was either the motor, and it would cost me around $200 to repair it, or it was the cord retractor/contacts mechanism that would be significantly less. I brought it in on a Friday at 3 PM, and right in front of me Steven tested it by applying some pressure with a large screw driver inside where the cord retracts, and it turned on. He announced that it was the less expensive repair costing sixty nine dollars, and it would be done the next day. I got a call back an 4:50 and picked it up an hour later just before they closed. A 2 hour turn-around is fantastic service. Steven noticed that I had no HEPA filter or retention unit, and he installed a filter and a used retention piece free of charge as I was leaving. Steven also had a new wand clip to replace the one that kept sliding off the elbow (the place where you reduce or increase suction).

I came in about 3 years ago to get just the wand clip and was given a used one that was also broken and kept sliding off all the time - eventually lost it again. At that time the back room was full of vacuums and sewing machines that hadn't been repaired. There were considerably fewer machines around--because he gets them repaired and back to their owners much more quickly than his predecessor.

Steven said that he's been working at Northgate Sewing and Vacuum about 4 months now and has 10 years of repair experience.

Steven is young, enthusiastic, competent, and seems to know all of the nuances of these machines. I highly recommend purchasing and repairing your vacuums at this store. Steven is really into what he does.

Congratulations goes to Steven for turning the service at this store around.

Horrible customer service and very incompetent employees. I truly wish I had read a review about Northgate Sewing and Vacuum before I bought anything from these people. I bought a Meile less than a year ago. Within the first 4 months, the motor burned out. The store clerk said they had a repair technician there on site that could look at it, but he would be out for the rest of the day and would look at it tomorrow. I checked back 3 days later because I hadn’t heard from them and they told me they had to send it out to be repaired and it would be a few more weeks.

I really think they should have just replaced the vacuum with a new one right then and there, especially considering it was a full blown motor, not some small part. But instead, they gave me a loaner that had to be at least 15 years old and wasn’t even a replacement Meile, it was a 15 year old Oreck upright with no attachments. I couldn’t believe they felt justified in giving me this after I had spent $1,300 for their vacuum that needed to be serviced only 4 months later. Not only did they not care how I felt, but their attitude clearly showed they had no interest in making anything better. I probably wouldn’t be writing this review except that 4 months later, the vacuum broke again. This time it was the control panel but it took 3 months to get it fixed. I also had to continually follow up with them, even after I asked them if they could please give me a courtesy call with any updates. When I made that last call before I picked up my vacuum cleaner, I asked them why they didn’t call me and why I had to call them. Their response was they had a wrong phone number. I had physically given them my cell phone number which they claimed they didn’t have. The guy on the phone was so rude and blamed a worker that was no longer there for the mix up.

I will never go back to this place and urge you to do the same if you want to be treated fairly and give your business to owners that appreciate your business. I hope I can help at least one person consider going somewhere else if they’re in search for anything Northgate Sewing and Vacuum sells. It can spare you a lot of future agony and frustration.

Northagate Sewing & Vacuum - Repair Gone Bad. Took a $1200 Meile Blue Moon vacuum in for repair. Was charged $300 for the repair, and received my vacuum back with the hose, wand and power head missing. The vacuum is no longer functional. I was simply told they didn't have the pieces and that I must never have brought them in. Simply not true! I guess they figured they received their money for the repair, and it was my problem if I had a vacuum that didn't work. Owner was not interested in finding a solution. Not once was I told they were sorry, or given some kind of solution other than they might be able to do me a "FAVOR" and find some old parts for me somewhere. Not my idea on how to run a business! Would strongly recommend finding someone else.
