Tips for Highlands of Marin Apartments

Nice Place but Really Bad Mgmt.. My place looks nice, my neighbors are nice people and my rent is somewhat reasonable. So why am I going through all the hassle and cost of moving out when my lease expires? Because the Highlands of Marin mgmt., really United Dominion, has become so antagonistic towards its residents that you can't help feeling bad about living here. For example, say you sign a contract for 12 months. You would think that contract is your agreement for the 12 months right? Not really; when you go online each month to pay rent, the Highlands forces you to agree to their new terms and conditions before you can pay rent. If you don't like the new cost savings restrictions that month and don't want to agree then you can't pay rent and your forced to break your original agreement. Seems illegal right? But who wants to fight that, especially when one of the line items in your contract is that by signing a lease with the Highlands, you forfeit your right to trial by jury (seriously). Wish I could share some of the monthly community emails we get. They are unbelievably negative. Need something that's broken fixed? I recommend talking to one of the engineers before you sign, they will likely tell you management doesn't approve many of the work orders just to save money. Search Google for "Highlands of Marin reviews" before you choose this place over one of the many better places here in Marin.

lowlands of customer service. The management is very nice when they want you to rent but after that they are very rude.

They don’t warn you before your lease expires and you have to go to them specially to say that you want to end the lease even though technically you sign a lease for 1 year. They expect you to read the lease agreement every month : P

This is so they can make extra money by automatically making you a month to month renter. The online UDR crap only asks you to renew. They purposely don’t send you any reminder email and on top of it say that this happens to everyone, such scamsters!!!!, Wont you want to make a change then and send everyone a reminder letter, if you’re worried about your tenant? They ask us to send an email but don’t bother to even reply to it.

The price for a small 1 bedroom is too high for the area, any other place offers much more. They charge extra for water-sewer and garbage, other place don’t

You don’t charge extra for 1 bedroom compared to others only for a free stupid wall mounted TV!!! The AC/Heater is a joke; It’s louder than an airplane....seriously!!! The washer/dryer is no less since it’s in the living room, what a design! Frankly they only remodeled the outside to fool people, inside everything sucks.

I should have taken the other reviews seriously! and to future renters, please know what you are in for....Well any good things you get here you will always find in any other place, so best thing is to ignore this place if you have a choice :) I don’t think the management themselves want to work here that’s why they are so rude. Aside from being forced to stay an extra month, this is still a bad place to live, look at other reviews on apartmentratings

HORRID CUSTOMER SERVICE. We recently were going to rent a 2bd 2ba apt. home from Highlands of Marin in San Rafael, CA. We put a $199 deposit down and were told the bldg would be ready by Jan. 8th for move in. Our lease where we are at is up on the 20th of Jan. so Perfect timing then we were told a week later that the move in date was pushed back to Jan. 20th and that wasn't even a set date, everything was tentative. After a few weeks of no definite date my husband called and talked to the property manager and she gave us a date of FEBRUARY 20th. WTH? wow from Jan. 8th. After considering all our options we decided to not move there after all these uncertainty's as well as every time we would call the office we wouldn't get an answer if a message was left no one would call us back. We finally got ahold of someone after trying for 3 straight days with no answer and spoke with Trey and I was told that it would take anywhere from 4-10days to get a refund in their corporate office. Then 2days later we recieve a letter from Trey in the office at the apartments stating that they were keeping our $199 for a cancellation fee. When my husband called he told him that it was a verbal agreement for the 72hr hold on the apartment when they kept changing the dates on us and pushing things back. This place is a joke do not rent from them they will only give you the run around and try to take your money.
