One of the better Japanese restaurants in the bay area.
Ive been to pretty much all the Japanese restaurants around here and I would rank this place in the top 5. Good food, friendly wait staff. Order their Tataki. Probably the best thing on the menu, the fried onions goes very well with the white tuna and ponzu sauce. Their agedashi tofu was very good, it wasnt like the ones from other restaurants. Lets see... pretty much anything that comes out from the sushi bar is fresh and good.
1 thing to rant about. The service isnt top notch. One time I ordered katsuo and i was waiting for quite a while and i asked the waitress about it and she said, "oh, i forgot to tell you, were out of it tonight." Oh yeah? well thanks for telling me. The food from the sushi bar takes a bit of time too but maybe because the times i went there it was busy.
Give it a shot and get dinner there, I dont think you will be disappointed.
Great "New & Old"!. I have to say that I was very impressed with the food, the creative dishes from the Sushi Chef and the quality of service. This isn't your typical "Rock & Roll" Sushi. It's stylish but not pretentious. It's authentic yet very inventive. It was a very pleasant dinning experience all around. I highly recommend it!
hidden gem !. We went to Akira last night and was very surprised. The Toro was wonderful, Akira rolls were a nice change, a great presentation. We also had very good special rolls.
Deserves Best of the Bay rating!!. The food at Akira is great. The sushi chef is a real pro. He makes excellent traditional sushi, as well as some new combinations I have never had anywhere else that were just incredible. Explosive flavors!! My wife is Japanese, and I have been to Tokyo and eaten sushi near the largest fish market in the world, Tsukiji, and I can tell you this place is first rate food. Try it and you won't be disappointed.
The best sushi you can get in bayarea!!. I'm from Japan, and I know REAL sushi. I've been to different places in S.F. and other places in bay area, but most of them were very disappointing. I thought that I can't expect good sushi, because I'm in the US, untill I went to Akira. Akira's sushi is really impressive. Sushi chef looks like an enlightend man, very calm, but makes really exciting great sushi.
