Delicious Italian Fare in a great ambiance

Everything I've ever tried at this place is delicious: Pasta, risotto, salad...Their due ravioli is yummy, but hands down my favorite thing there is the entree-sized Scallop and Prawn Caesar Salad...Perfectly seared scallops, mouth-watering dressing, and polenta croutons.

The only thing I don't like about this restaurant is that as nice as it is they serve their bread cold. Would be nice to get warm bread.

ll Davide San Rafael's Best

My husband and I go to the San Rafael theatre often. Having past Il Davide on our way from the parking lot, we saw the many awards and decided to give it a try. We found everything to be very well done.

I had an appetizer of mussels cooked with Sambucca! They were very tasty and something I would not have thought of to cook at home. My husband had the baby spinach salad with a good rasberry viniagrette. Our entree's were not traditional Italian fare and I enjoyed the halibut served on a creamy polenta with a lovely broth, my husband raved about the goat cheese raviolis in a fresh heirloom tomato sauce. The menu is a good size, something for everyone and the portions substaincial-something lacking in many restaurants these days. Wines by the glass were many, but we stuck to our favorite Rafanelli Zinfindel. The service was fast, effiecient and friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and comfortable. We are going back!

• Cons: Parking lot can be full and street parking difficult in the daytime, nights OK

Reliable tasty food

We eat at Il DAvide a lot. It is the closest good restaurant to our home in eastern San Rafael. I can always get a good piece of fish perfectly prepared with veggies, and my husband, the pasta lover, says their pasta, especially torttelini and ravioli, is always good. Desserts are very good, service is very good, I've rarely had a complaint, and we have eaten at some of the best restaurants in the world. I will grant you that the food may not be exciting or innovative, and the presentation may not be trendy, though it's always attractive and care is obviously given, but it's reliably very good food. I was taken aback to read even one negative review!

Not exactly recommending the place...

Hey, I like the wines here, what can I say. Good selection, fair markup. Terrible glasses, unfortunately. The food is a bit heavy and not all that creative but it's nice to sit outside after a long ride on the trails. Very nice servers.

Ughhh....

Italian food at it's worst! Everything came overcooked including my dates steak and my pasta. Whatever happened to "Al Dente"? Wine list was ok, but nothing special. Scary parking lot!!!
